- Possible bad bulb, replace bulb in light source.
- Possible misaligned light source, make sure light source is directly below optical viewing field.
- Possible blown fuse on light source, check for fuse if applicable.
- Intensity control on light source turned down too low.
- Possible closed iris, open iris.
- Unit plugged into dead outlet, check outlet with another device.

- Possible dirty objectives or oculars, clean as needed.
- Possible spring loaded objective is stuck out of proper position, clean sides of objective.
- Possible loose adjustment dials, verify that mechanical stage moves when dials are turned.
